# Why the numbers differ from Shopify

> The reasons Block Hero's orders, revenue and visits won't match Shopify Analytics.

Block Hero and Shopify Analytics answer different questions. Shopify Analytics reports on your whole store. Block Hero counts what happened after a shopper clicked one of your blocks. Expect Block Hero's numbers to be smaller, and to differ for the reasons below.

## Metric by metric

Shopify's definitions come from the Shopify Help Center pages linked in the table. For how each Block Hero metric is counted, see [What each metric means](/docs/results/metrics.md).

| Block Hero metric | Closest Shopify Analytics metric | How they differ |
| - | - | - |
| **Sessions** | Sessions ([Acquisition reports](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/reports-and-analytics/shopify-reports/report-types/default-reports/acquisition-reports)) | Both end after 30 minutes without activity. Shopify counts every session on your online store. Block Hero counts only sessions that start with a click on one of your blocks, and a click on different content starts a new one. |
| **Impressions** | None | Shopify doesn't count how often a block was seen. |
| **Clicks** | None | Shopify doesn't count clicks on blocks. |
| **CTR** | None | **Clicks** divided by **Impressions**. Shopify has no equivalent. |
| **Pageviews** | Pageviews ([Behavior reports](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/reports-and-analytics/shopify-reports/report-types/default-reports/behaviour-reports)) | Shopify counts pages viewed across your whole store. Block Hero counts only pages opened during a session that started with a block click. |
| **Products viewed** | None that matches | Product pages opened during a session that started with a block click. |
| **Avg. pages/session** | None that matches | **Pageviews** divided by **Sessions**, for block-click sessions only. |
| **Added to cart** | Sessions with cart additions ([Behavior reports](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/reports-and-analytics/shopify-reports/report-types/default-reports/behaviour-reports)) | Both count sessions, not products. Block Hero counts only block-click sessions, and only adds made without reloading the page, such as a cart drawer. |
| **Added-to-cart rate** | Sessions with cart additions as a share of sessions ([Behavior reports](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/reports-and-analytics/shopify-reports/report-types/default-reports/behaviour-reports)) | Block Hero divides by block-click sessions only. |
| **Reached checkout** | Sessions that reached checkout ([Behavior reports](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/reports-and-analytics/shopify-reports/report-types/default-reports/behaviour-reports)) | Both need the shopper to fill something in at checkout, not just open it. Block Hero counts only block-click sessions. |
| **Orders** | Orders ([Sales report](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/reports-and-analytics/shopify-reports/report-types/default-reports/sales-report)) | Block Hero counts only orders placed within 30 minutes of activity in a block-click session, each credited to one block. Neither counts test orders, except that Block Hero counts them on development stores. |
| **Conversion rate** | Conversion rate ([Behavior reports](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/reports-and-analytics/shopify-reports/report-types/default-reports/behaviour-reports)) | Both are sessions with an order divided by sessions. Shopify divides by all online store sessions. Block Hero divides by block-click sessions. |
| **Revenue** | Total sales ([Sales report](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/reports-and-analytics/shopify-reports/report-types/default-reports/sales-report)) | Both include taxes and shipping and take off discounts. Shopify takes off returns and other order changes on the day they happen. Block Hero keeps the order total at the time of the order and never takes off returns. |
| **AOV** | Average order value ([Sales report](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/reports-and-analytics/shopify-reports/report-types/default-reports/sales-report)) | Block Hero's AOV is product sales after discounts, before shipping, at the prices shoppers paid, divided by orders. Where your store's prices include tax, it includes tax. It uses only orders Block Hero credited to a block, with the amounts at the time of the order. |

## Only visits that start with a block click

**Sessions**, **Added to cart**, **Orders** and **Revenue** only include visits that started with a click on one of your blocks. A shopper who buys without clicking a block isn't counted by Block Hero, but is counted by Shopify.

## Each order goes to one block

An order is credited to the block and content whose click started the shopper's session. If the shopper then clicks different content, a new session starts and that content gets the credit instead. An order is never split or counted twice across blocks. See [How a session is credited](/docs/results/metrics.md#how-a-session-is-credited).

## The 30-minute rule

A session ends after 30 minutes with no activity. If a shopper clicks a block, leaves for longer than that, and comes back to buy, Block Hero doesn't credit the order to the block.

## Shoppers who decline tracking

Block Hero counts a shopper only when they allow analytics in your store's consent banner. See [Shoppers who decline tracking](/docs/results/when-counting-starts.md#shoppers-who-decline-tracking).

## Revenue is before returns

**Revenue** is the order total at the time of the order, including taxes and shipping. It doesn't go down when an order is refunded or returned later. **AOV** is product sales after discounts, before shipping, and includes tax only where your store's prices include tax.

## Counting start dates

Some metrics started on a later day for your store, such as **Orders** from the first order Shopify confirmed. Days before that aren't counted. See [When counting starts](/docs/results/when-counting-starts.md).

## Theme editor and previews

Visits in the theme editor and theme previews aren't counted.

> To compare fairly, pick the same dates in both apps and look at trends rather than exact totals.
