# When content goes live

> How Block Hero uses your store's time zone, when each kind of block changes, and the rules for overlapping and open-ended dates.

## Your store's time zone

Every date and time you set is in your store's time zone, the one set in your Shopify admin. The time zone is shown next to each time you pick, so you can check it before you save.

![Scheduler > block page > date and time fields: a Start date with its time and the store time zone abbreviation next to it](https://mintcdn.com/blockhero/JdEGr8CZPqTHi1ss/images/scheduling/time-zone.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=JdEGr8CZPqTHi1ss\&q=85\&s=5ce91c590391636e6191f7e1b6effc5f)

## When each kind of block changes

| Kind of block | When it changes on your store |
| - | - |
| Block Hero blocks | At the time you set. Each time a page loads, the block shows the content that is live at that moment. |
| Theme sections | At each schedule's start and end time. Block Hero also checks every 5 minutes and catches up anything missed, so a change shows within about 5 minutes at most. |

If you edit a theme section's live schedule, the change usually shows on your store within seconds.

> [!NOTE]
>
> If a change doesn't reach your store, Block Hero shows **Not published** on the block and a banner with **Try again**. See [Troubleshooting publishing](/docs/troubleshooting/publishing.md).

## One schedule at a time

A block shows one schedule at a time, so Block Hero won't save dates that overlap another schedule on the same block. You see **These dates overlap another schedule in this block.** (or **These dates overlap other content in this block.** on Image Banner and Media Banner blocks).

Schedules can sit end to end: one can start at the exact moment the previous one ends.

> [!TIP]
>
> On Media Grid, Collection Grid and Collection List blocks, a new schedule's start is filled in with the time the block's latest schedule ends, so back-to-back schedules line up without gaps.

## No end date

Tick **No end date** to keep content live until you change it. Because nothing can overlap it, you can't add a schedule to that block that runs into it, whether it starts later or starts earlier and is still running when it begins. To schedule what comes next, edit it and give it an end date first. On Image Banner and Media Banner blocks you see **Give "…" an end date first. It has none, so nothing can be scheduled after it.** until you do.

## When nothing is scheduled

* **Block Hero blocks** show nothing to shoppers while no content is live. In the theme editor you see a placeholder instead.
* **Theme sections** keep showing the last schedule, or a fallback you choose. See [What shows between schedules](/docs/theme-sections/between-schedules.md).

## What happens when…

| When | Block Hero blocks | Theme sections |
| - | - | - |
| A schedule's start time arrives | Shoppers see it from the next page load. | The section switches to it. |
| A schedule ends with nothing after it | The block shows nothing to shoppers. | The section keeps showing it, or your fallback. |
| You edit live content and save | Block Hero publishes the change to your store when you save. | The change usually shows within seconds. |
| You delete the live content or schedule | The block shows nothing until the next schedule starts. | The section shows your fallback if you chose one. Otherwise it shows the most recent schedule that ended, or, if there's none left, what it showed when you connected it. |
| You leave a field empty in a schedule | Usually left out, such as no heading. A few fields fall back to something else: see each block's page. | The field shows what your theme had when you connected the section, not the previous schedule's value. |
| The block is turned off | The block shows nothing. Its schedules are kept. | Not available for theme sections. |

## Things that override the dates

* **A disabled block** shows nothing, whatever its schedules say. See [Turn a block on or off](/docs/scheduling/turn-a-block-on-or-off.md).
* **A status set by hand** on a piece of content in a Block Hero block beats its dates. See [Statuses](/docs/scheduling/statuses.md).
