# Publishing and saving

> What each publishing or save message means, and what to do when scheduled content isn't showing on your store.

Find the message you see in Block Hero, then follow **What to do**.

## Publishing messages

When you save a block, Block Hero sends the change to your store in the background. If Shopify doesn't accept it, the block is marked **Not published**.

> **We couldn't publish your last change to your store**
>
> **What it means**
>
> Your last save on this block didn't reach your store. Your store is still showing the previous version of the block. Your changes are saved in Block Hero and nothing is lost. The banner shows the reason and the time of the last attempt.
>
> **What to do**
>
> 1. Click **Try again** on the banner.
> 2. Wait for the message at the bottom of the screen. **Published to your store** means it worked.
> 3. If you see **Couldn't publish to your store. Try again.** again, wait a few minutes and try once more. If it keeps failing, [contact us](/docs/contact.md) with the block name.

> **We couldn't publish 1 block to your store**
>
> **What it means**
>
> This banner appears on the Scheduler home page. One block's last save didn't reach your store, so your store is still showing the previous version of it. The banner names the block and the reason.
>
> **What to do**
>
> Click **Try again** on the banner, or click **View block** to open the block first. You can also click the block's **...** menu in the list and choose **Try again**.

> **We couldn't publish N blocks to your store**
>
> **What it means**
>
> More than one block didn't reach your store. The banner lists each block by name. Your store is still showing their previous versions.
>
> **What to do**
>
> Open each block and click **Try again** on its banner. Blocks that need attention show a **Not published** badge in the list.

> **Still publishing. Check back in a minute.**
>
> **What it means**
>
> You clicked **Try again** and Shopify hasn't answered yet. The update is still being sent.
>
> **What to do**
>
> Wait a minute, then reload the page. If the **Not published** badge is gone, the change is live. If the red banner is still there, click **Try again**.

## Messages when you save a schedule

> **Please add at least one content block before scheduling.**
>
> **What it means**
>
> You tried to save a schedule with nothing in it.
>
> **What to do**
>
> Click **Add content block**, fill in the content, then save again.

> **Maximum of N content blocks allowed for ...**
>
> **What it means**
>
> Some blocks hold a fixed number of items per schedule. A **Media Grid (2)** holds 2 tiles and a **Collection Grid** holds up to 4. Once a schedule is full, the form shows **Content limit reached** with the count, for example (2/2).
>
> **What to do**
>
> Edit or remove an item that's already in the schedule. To show different tiles at another time, create a new schedule for those dates. See [Create a schedule](/docs/scheduling/create-a-schedule.md).

> **End date must be after start date**
>
> **What it means**
>
> The end date and time are the same as, or earlier than, the start.
>
> **What to do**
>
> Pick a later end date or time. If the content should run with no end, tick **No end date** instead.

> **These dates overlap another schedule in this block.**
>
> **What it means**
>
> A block shows one schedule at a time, so two schedules on the same block can't cover the same dates. A schedule can start at the exact moment another one ends.
>
> **What to do**
>
> Change the dates so they don't overlap, or edit the other schedule first. A schedule with no end date covers every date after its start, so give it an end date to make room for a later one. See [When content goes live](/docs/scheduling/when-content-goes-live.md).

> **These dates overlap other content in this block.**
>
> **What it means**
>
> You see this on an **Image Banner** or **Media Banner** block. These blocks show one banner at a time, so two pieces of content can't cover the same dates. Content you've set to inactive by hand doesn't count.
>
> **What to do**
>
> Change the dates, or edit the content that's already scheduled for those dates.

> **Give "…" an end date first. It has none, so nothing can be scheduled after it.**
>
> **What it means**
>
> On an **Image Banner** or **Media Banner** block, the content named in the message runs with no end date, so there's no free time for new content.
>
> **What to do**
>
> Open that content and give it an end date, then schedule the new content after it.

## Content isn't showing on my store

A Block Hero block shows content on your store only when all of these are true. On your live store, a block that's missing one of them shows nothing. In the theme editor, it shows a grey box that names the problem.

> **The app block isn't in your theme**
>
> **What it means**
>
> Block Hero content appears through an app block that you add in the theme editor, such as **Image Banner**, **Media Banner**, **Media Grid (2)**, **Collection Grid** or **Collection List**. Without it, the page has nowhere to show your content.
>
> **What to do**
>
> Add the app block to the page in the theme editor and save. See [Schedule your first block](/docs/get-started/schedule-your-first-block.md).

> **The Block ID isn't pasted in the theme editor**
>
> **What it means**
>
> Each app block has a **Block ID** setting that tells it which Block Hero block to show. If it's empty, or doesn't match a block in Block Hero, nothing appears. If you paste the Block ID of a different type of block (for example a **Collection Grid** ID into a **Media Grid (2)** app block), nothing appears either.
>
> **What to do**
>
> 1. In Block Hero, open the block and find **Add to theme editor**.
> 2. Click **Copy** next to **Block ID**.
> 3. In the theme editor, select the app block, paste the ID into **Block ID**, and save.

> **The block is disabled**
>
> **What it means**
>
> A block set to **Disabled** shows nothing on your store, even when it has content scheduled.
>
> **What to do**
>
> Open the block and set **Status** to **Enabled**, then save. You can also click the block's **...** menu on the Scheduler home page and choose **Enable block**. See [Turn a block on or off](/docs/scheduling/turn-a-block-on-or-off.md).

> **Nothing is scheduled for today**
>
> **What it means**
>
> The block only shows content whose dates include right now. If every schedule has ended or hasn't started yet, the block shows nothing.
>
> **What to do**
>
> Check the block's schedules and their dates. Add a schedule that covers today, or change the dates of an existing one. See [Statuses](/docs/scheduling/statuses.md).

> **The last save wasn't published**
>
> **What it means**
>
> If the block shows **Not published**, your store is still showing the previous version.
>
> **What to do**
>
> Open the block and click **Try again**. See [Publishing messages](#publishing-messages) above.
